A self-sufficient artisan community founded in 1855, Its members lived simply, without vanity, and dedicated themselves to living sustainably. Everything was shared and everything they needed they produced themselves. Their textiles are woven in the same woolen mill building used more than 150 years ago, utilizing the exacting methods brought from the old world by Amana’s first settlers in the mid-1900’s.
