Abundant Bloomsdale Spinach
$4.25
Boasts cold tolerance & high yields. Heirloom varieties are cherished, but the farmers and gardeners who developed them never intended their varieties to stand still in time. Organic Seed Alliance continues the long tradition of on farm seed stewardship by working with farmers to breed new varieties & improve old ones. The result are varieties such as Abundant Bloomsdale Spinach, that excel in organic systems & have enough genetic diversity to be widely adapted. These, in turn, become the heirlooms of tomorrow. An improved savoyed spinach that boasts cold tolerance & high yields. Best as an early spring crop or for fall harvests. Abundant Bloomsdale produces large, super-savoyed, substantial leaves. Grow as a mature spinach plant. Named after the Abundant Life Seed Foundation Farm, where this variety started in 2002. Certified organic. Non-GMO, open pollinated seeds. Count: 100 seeds. Artwork by: Barbara Lerulli
Growing: Direct sow anytime soil can be worked in the cooler months, from about 6 weeks before first fall frost until the date of your last spring frost. Broadcast seeds in a well cultivated garden patch or seed rows 10in apart, and thin seedlings to 6in. Spinach sown in fall will come up extremely early in the spring. When full size, harvest the entire plant promptly, especially in late spring, when it tends to bolt under heat pressure. Sow in successions for a steady crop. For a good fall crop, sow spinach in august. Fall crops yield until deep winter; with a cold frame you can eat spinach all year long.

About the Merchant
An improved savoyed spinach developed by the Organic Seed Alliance in partnership with organic farmers. Boasts cold tolerance and high yields. Heirloom varieties of the past are cherished for their flavor, beauty, and unique growing qualities, but the farmers and gardeners who developed them never intended their varieties to stand still in time. Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) continues the long tradition of on-farm seed stewardship by working with farmers to breed new plant varieties and improve older ones. OSA helps farmers identify and develop qualities that meet the modern needs of organic farming and gardening. The result? Varieties, such as Abundant Bloomsdale Spinach, that perform well without the use of chemicals and have enough genetic diversity to be adapted to various regions. Such varieties can become our heirlooms of Tomorrow. They will stand up over time, be improved upon, loved, and handed down by farmers and gardeners for many generations to come. PLEASE NOTE: that although this variety is Certified Organic per USDA standards, it is not certified organic per Canadian standards. NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT TO CANADA.
