Sori Yanagi is one of the most respected product designers in Japan. His works are simple, beautiful, and extremely practical. He designed the 1964 Olympic cauldrons and his works are often on display at exhibitions. In recent years he has been increasingly reviewed in magazines around the world. His signature kettle won the Good Design Award again in 2013. His father, Soetsu Yanagi started Mingei (Japanese folk art) in promotion, which valued the hand-crafted art of ordinary people and discovered beauty in everyday ordinary objects, ultimately establishing Nihon Mingeikan, the Folk Crafts Museum of Japan. Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd was founded in 1955 in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, which is the center of cutlery and steel manufacturing. It manufactures most of the Sori Yanagi-designed kitchenware and tableware.
